PVPA is a regional public charter school serving 400 students grades 7-12, from over 60 towns throughout Western Massachusetts. We seek to connect the creative process with critical thinking to inspire a love of learning. As a charter school, the work we do informs educational policy at local, state and national levels.
The writing strand at PVPA consists of three components: process writing, revision, and polished final drafts.
Process Writing
Students will use a range of strategies while generating and organizing ideas for written assignments. Some of these strategies include free writing, mapping, webbing, outlines, annotations, and drafting.
Revision
Revision of written assignments is fundamental to PVPA’s writing program, and students should plan to revise work several times over the course of a semester or unit.
Polished Final Drafts
Final work must be presented with all the process work, and meet expectations as to presentation and format. All written work needs an academic heading (name, date, course, title, subtitle) and, if typed, appear with 12 point type, 1.5 spacing, and in a simple font.
